Larry Poling, 71, of 410 4th Street S.W., State Center, died Sunday night, August 14th, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. His death came peacefully at 8:37 P.M. with family at his side. Memorial services and a celebration of Larry's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 19th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Keith McDonald of the State Center Presbyterian Church officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following the services in the hospitality room of the funeral home. Private family interment rites will be in the Hillside Cemetery at State Center.
Born on October 25th, 1933, in State Center, he was the son of Kenneth and Cleo (Stock) Poling. He graduated from the State Center High School. On January 11th, 1953, in State Center, he was united in marriage to Lois Speer. They shared 52 ½ blessed years together at the time of his death. Not only was Lois his wife, she was also his best friend. In 1970, Larry went to work for the Business Men's Assurance Company. Larry worked very hard and earned his college insurance degree as a Certified Life Under Larry was a fond supporter of the State Center community, an avid Iowa Hawkeyes Football and Basketball fan, enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, was a master gardener and shared with many. He took great pride in making his yard look perfect. He was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren and cherished them all. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 52 ½ years, Lois, his children Lynn Poling of Georgetown, TX., Lance (Mandee) Poling of Lago Vista, TX., Linda (Ralph) Gibbs of Colo, Iowa, and Luann (Dennis) Clatt of Colo, Iowa, his precious grandchildren: Ashley Kristine Gibbs, Brittany Nicole Gibbs, Tanner James Clatt, Jacob Hadley Clatt, Lance Preston Poling, Alexandra Leigh Poling and Taylor Ashlyn Poling as well as his siblings Jerry Poling (Katie) of State Center, Allyn (Jeanette) Poling of Fremont, NE, Sharon Abbas of Grundy Center, Kenneth, Jr. (Penny) Poling of Maplewood, MN., Carolee (Dennis) Volker of New Hampton, Rick Poling of Minneapolis, MN., and LeaAnn Hitchings of State Center. In death he has rejoined his parents and a son Gary in infancy.
