Martha (Cuhel) Achterhof, the daughter of John and Sophie Cuhel, was bom at Silver Lake, Minnesota, on December 31, 1903. Martha lived her youth and received her education at Silver Lake. She continued her education at the Lee Beauty School in St Paul, Minn.
Martha was united in marriage to Marvin Achterhof on November 2, 1936 at St Paul, Minn., and to this union one daughter was born. Martha and Marv's married lifetime has been spent in the Sanborn community.
Martha died at Northwest Iowa Health Center at Sheldon. Iowa on April 10, 1994, at the age of 90 years, three months and nine days.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Sanborn: her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Lloyd Vander Burgh of Naperville. Ill., one grandson, one granddaughter, one great-grandson and one sister. Mildred Wrasper [sic Wraspir] of Silver Lake, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Martha was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn and the American Legion Auxiliary. Special hobbies that Martha will be remembered for are fishing and traveling and also for her cooking expertise.
Funeral services were held April 13at the First Reformed Church in Sanbom with Rev. Thomas Hoogendoorn officiating. Casket bearers were Lee Chllders, Don Kroese, Ted Marra, Brian Vlsser, Dick Sanders and Robert Rook. Congregational hymns were "Itls Well with My Soul" and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." Ruth Sterk was organist §urial was In Roseland Cemetery, Sanbom, with the Sanborn Funeral Home In charge.
