Hurbert Cleo Akers ( 1901 - 1985 )

H. Cleo Akers, Dighton, 83, died March 28, 1985 at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City. Born April 3,1901 at Big Sandy Tenn., he married Effie Morris in 1927 at Dighton. She died April 28, 1963. He was a retired Post Master and a resident of Dighton since 1929, moving from McCracken.

He was a graduate of McCracken High School, and attended the Kansas City Pharmacy School. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Odd Fellows Lodge, and a longtime church Administration Board member, all of Dighton.

Survivors: sons, Richard, St. Louis, Mo.; Ronard, New Orleans, La.; sisters, Ruth Yawger, Wichita; Esther Akers and Katharen Rodeman both of McCracken; four grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Funeral services were at the church at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30. The Rev. Edward Shelton. Burial at Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Memorial Hospital, Dighton.
