Bonnie Cecil Margurette Abbott, the daughter of John and Alta (Vankirk) Jones, was born August 11, 1909 at Coburg, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 14 days.
Bonnie was raised at Coburg where she attended school and loved playing basketball. Bonnie was united in marriage to Adam Jess Abbott on December 30, 1926 at Rockport, Missouri. They made their home on a farm north of Bartlett, Iowa and were blessed with 12 children. After the death of her husband in l946, Bonnie moved to Red Oak. Throughout her life, she worked at different places and for 17 years, worked at the Elks Lodge in the food service department. Bonnie moved to the Stanton area in l961. She loved quilting and would help the church circles make quilts. Bonnie was a member of the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 Auxiliary of Stanton. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Adam in January of 1946, 2 daughters: Dixie and Donetta, 2 sons: Douglas and Kenneth "Tuffy", 2 sisters: Nora and Naomi and 6 brothers: Riley, Jack, Orlo, Chester, Kenneth and Delmont.
Bonnie is survived by 4 daughters: Bonnie Elkins and husband Arthur of Emerson, IA; Marjorie Munn of Tucson, AZ; Sharon McGinnis of Wheeling, IL and Carmen "Chubby" Williams and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids, IA; 4 sons: Gerald Abbott and special friend Mary Penry of Red Oak, IA; John Abbott and wife Lorraine of Phoenix, AZ; Joe Abbott and wife Leta of Live Oak, CA and Danny Abbott and wife Joyce of Red Oak, IA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Junior Jones of Red Oak, IA and Wallace Jones and wife Louise of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
