Helen Delores Legleiter, 80, Hays, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Via Christi Village in Hays. She was born Dec. 4, 1936, in Hoxie to John M. and Mary P. (Schoenberger) Albers.

She married Donald Legleiter on Feb. 12, 1958, in Oakley. He preceded her in death June 30, 1990.

She was a 1954 graduate of Oakley High School. She was a Jill-of-all-trades from helping her husband build houses, bartending at Donnie's Tavern and working at Travenol, Adronics, U-Save, and Everybody's Restaurant, just to name a few. After her husband's death she spent numerous hours working with cattle at their farm and babysitting her grandchildren.

She enjoyed fishing with her son, vacationing with her daughter's and sons' families. She sewed clothes and numerous baby blankets, she enjoyed gardening and walking for exercise, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Dale Legleiter and wife, Dotty, Don Legleiter and wife, Sharon, and Lester Legleiter and wife, Mona, all of Hays; a daughter, Mary Leiker and husband, Doug, Wichita; three brothers, Gary Albers and wife, Chris, Gillette, Wyo., Jim Albers, Oakley, and Charles Albers and wife, Lois, Hays; a sister; Evelyn Geist, Oakley.

Nine grandchildren, Brandon Leiker and wife, Andrea, Amy Leiker and Michael Leiker, all of Wichita, Brian Legleiter and wife, Amanda, Hays, Andrea Legleiter and Shawn Mellilo, Lakeside, Conn., Devin Legleiter and wife, Mariah, Derek Legleiter, Chase Legleiter and Jesse Legleiter, all of Hays; three step-grandchildren, Ashley Rohr and husband, Darin, Katie Christen, and Erika Werth; and 13 great-grandchildren, Austin, Madeleine, Dominic, Aiden, Leah, Addie, Cam, Amanda, Olivia, Emma, Bryce, Clay, and Kaycie; and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bernie Albers, Bill Albers and LeRoy Albers; and two sisters, LoRee Albers and Roberta Robben.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601. A vigil/ rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
