Lyle Everett Aaberg was born at home near Astoria, South Dakota on November 24, 1929 to parents Adolph and Myrtle (Rolfson) Aaberg. He was raised on the family farm near Astoria and he graduated from Astoria High School.

Lyle was united in marriage to Ann Moe on July 29, 1951 in Hendricks, MN and to this union they were blessed with three children. Lyle proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from November 1951 to August 1953. Upon his honorable discharge from the service he returned home to farm and raise his family. He worked for GTA Elevator in Toronto for 26 years and then was a custodian for the Deubrook Public School for 11 years until retiring in 2006. After his retirement, Lyle and Ann moved to Brookings, and on August 25, 2013 Ann passed away.

Lyle enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center, playing bingo at the VFW, along with several trips to his favorite eating place, Nick's Hamburger Shop. In May of 2019, Lyle was involved with the Midwest Honor Flight program along with his daughter, Darlis and it was truly meaningful and memorable to him. Visiting and laughing with people was a big part of his life. Time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was priceless.

He was a member of Leganger Lutheran Church and a member of the Brookings VFW and the Toronto American Legion, Post #88. Lyle served the Toronto community by being the mayor for a few years in the 1970's.
