Judith “Judy” Groves Abbott, 71, of Spotsylvania County was called home for eternal rest on Thursday, June 8, 2017 as a result of complications from diabetes resulting in liver failure.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ada Groves; and sister Janice Sweyart.

Judy retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation January 1, 2007 after 42 years of service. She loved her VDOT family and friends. She always loved to laugh and would rather help someone than to receive help. She enjoyed NASCAR racing, Nationals baseball, Capitals hockey and the Washington Redskins. Judy loved going to the Outer Banks and watching the sun come up over the ocean. Judy knew that view could only have been created by God.

Survivors include the love of her life, daughter Tracey Abbott of Spotsylvania; sister Melissa Oliver (Richard) of Spotsylvania; nephews Jeffrey Chinault and Richard Oliver Jr both of Spotsylvania; niece Stacie Hough (Nick) and great-niece Addison Hough all of Manassas.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 11 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at noon Monday, June 12 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
