George Nickolas Albers, 81, Grinnell, died Monday, July 21, 2014. He was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Sheridan County to Anton and Helen (Schulte) Albers.

He married Carol Moore on June 22, 1957.

He worked for the city of Grinnell and later owned and operated the Grinnell Standard Service Station. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 2864 and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Nicholus, Merl and wife, Stephanie, Julian and wife, Tammy, Loren and wife, Amy, Kent and wife, Vickey, and Ivan; nine daughters, Denice Jehring and husband, Bill, Angie Heinrich and husband, Greg, Bea Albers, Eva Crispin and husband, Carey, Faye Cyr and husband, Todd, Hope Weninger and husband, Duane, Tranda Morrissey and husband, Chris, Trudi Albers, and Veronica Hatman and husband, James; two brothers, Bernard and Ronald and wife, Teresa; two sisters, Lucille Houston and Twila Stover and husband, Bill; 54 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Holaday; a brother, Julian; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Grinnell. A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the center.
