Laverna Rouwenhorst Aalbers, age 85, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2016 while living at MillPond in Ankeny, Iowa.

Laverna was born November 4, 1931 in Prairie City, Iowa to Everett and Jennie De Graff Rouwenhorst. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1950.

On November 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Don Aalbers. To this union were born 2 daughters, Connie Jo and Vicky Sue. Laverna was a dedicated and loving wife and mother.

She continued to be a homemaker and Don was co-owner of the Colfax Livestock Auction. They faithfully attended Bethany Reformed Church in Des Moines. Later, she attended Meredith Drive Reformed Church.

Don passed away suddenly on January 20, 1976. Laverna was a wonderful Christian example to her family and friends. She faithfully read her Bible and prayed each night for every one of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and siblings by name.

Her earthly pride and joy were her daughters and their families. Many wonderful memories were made going to Adventureland, camping, going to motels and celebrating holidays and birthdays. The great grandchildren lovingly called her Mamo and Memo.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, infant granddaughter, Katie Ann Peter, sisters Louise Kane, Norma Schuttinga and brothers-in-law Beryl Kane, Bill Vande Lune, Gerald Schuttinga and Art Schuttinga.

Those left to celebrate her life are her are her two daughters: Connie (Cliff) Marlow of Pella and Vicky (Terry) Peter of Ankeny; six grandchildren: Scott (Christina) Marlow of Shawnee, KS, Wendy (Josh) Visser of Pella, Tracy (Mike) Redman of Pella, Mandy (Justin) Vogel of Polk City, Laura (Kent) Patterson of Ankeny and Tammy (Rob) Simms of Ankeny; fourteen great-grandchildren: Payton, Cadynce and Beckym Marlow, Jamison and Audika Visser, Zane, Elim and Alaina Redman, Brooklyn and Tyson Vogel, Kael, Kylee and Kase Patterson and Huston Simms; three siblings Leona Vande Lune of Altoona, Maxine Schuttinga of Altoona and Melvin (Ann) Rouwenhorst of Pella; and one brother-in-law: Bob (Esther) Aalbers of Altoona and her many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Our sincerest thanks goes out to all who lovingly cared for her at MillPond, Lutheran Hospital and the Taylor House.
