Dr. Abdul-Karim was born on July 25, 1973, in Newport News, Va, to Omar Abdul-Karim and Merrea Abdul-Karim. He was a prominent African-American dentist and owner of Contemporary Dental. He graduated from East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. He was a charter member of Omicron Gamma Sigma graduate chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
He had several passions in life. He was committed to fitness, health and wellness. He was athletic and very active, played basketball, participated in marathons and extreme sporting activities. Dr. Abdul-Karim was an avid reader, had a great eye for fine art and a love for history.
Dr. Abdul-Karim loved the Lord. He was a Deacon at St. Paul's Missionary Baptist Church in Oak City, taught Sunday School and was active with youth in the community and ministry.
Dr. Abdul-Karim is survived by his wife, Jacqueline J. Abdul-Karim; son, Hakeem Ibn M. Abdul-Karim; daughter, Sekani Ameen Abdul-Karim; mother and father; three loving brothers; a supportive sister-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A viewing service will be held for Dr. Abdul- Karim at noon on Wednesday at Philippi Church of Christ, 3760 Philippi Circle, Greenville. The funeral service will take place at 1pm, and he will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Enfield. Congleton Funeral Home & Cremations is caring for the Abdul-Karim family.
