Marlin William Abby, age 93, formerly of West Salem, IL died of kidney failure on June 14, 2018 at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Hillsborough, N.C. During WWII, he served as Corporal in the 37th Infantry Division in the Pacific. Marlin worked for Southern Illinois Lumber Company in Albion for 15 years and at the West Salem location as Manager for 25 years. During those years he also served as Vice President and later as a Director.

Marlin’s hobbies included gardening, camping and wood working. He and Dora Etta enjoyed winters in south Texas together for over 20 years.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in West Salem where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Board, as well as other positions. He was also an active member in the West Salem community with membership in the Rotary Club, Ruritan Club and the Chamber of Commerce was well as a lifetime member of the VFW. Marlin also served on the West Salem Area Development Board.

Marlin is survived by his daughter, Debbie (and husband David) Ewing of Southport, NC and grandson, Andy (and wife Alison) Ewing of Wilmington, NC.
