Anna Laura (Allen) Abner was a graduate of Glen Eden High School and attended Lees College in Jackson, KY where she met and married Charles Lindon Allen. Charles was a mortician who practiced in Beattyville, Kentucky until his death in 1951. Two children was bon of this marriage. In 1962 she married James E. Abner, who preceded her in death in 1982.

Throughout her adult life Ann worked at American Greeting Cards in Cincinnati, OH; University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY; Lee County School System and Lee County Public Library from which she retired in 2007. Ann was a lifelong member of New Springs United Methodist Church. She served there as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Administrative board and various other committees. She was often observed silently cleaning the sanctuary and classrooms in preparation for worship service. She dedicated many hours to her daily devotions and bible study.
Ann had many interests in life and particularly loved traveling, quilting, crocheting and cooking. She took great delight in little children and was best known for the gifts of love to them and her friends and family.

She peacefully left our lives to enter into eternal life where she was welcomed by her parents, Steve Scott Gumm and Millie Ethel Bennett Gumm, her two spouses, Charles L. Allen and James E. Abner, and one sister, Virginia Elva Jones.

She is survived by two devoted daughters, Donna (Allen) Spencer and husband Roy of Nashville, TN; Charlotte (Allen) Davis and husband Bruce of Beattyville, KY; two granddaughters, Dr. Patricia Davis Fain and husband Matthew Fain of Richmond, KY, and Laura Spencer Tucker and Husband Will Tucker of Columbus, OH; two great grandsons William Cannon Fain and Carson Davis Fain of Richmond, KY; and a beloved sister-in-law, Patricia D. Allen of Dayton, OH; four brothers, Youles Gumm (Hazel) of Mason, OH, John Q. Gumm and Wilmer (Bonnie) Gumm of Beattyville, KY; one sister, Zelma Smith of Winter Haven, FL, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 2008 at the New Springs Methodist Church. Interment at Davis Cemetery, Primrose, KY with Newnam Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to New Springs United Methodist Church, Primrose, KY.
