Lemerle was born October 9, 1927, in Chambers County, AL; to the late Erby L. and Sue Duffee Jackson. She graduated from high school and Coker College in Hartsville, SC. She taught school in Blaney, SC before leaving to work for DuPont, where she helped draw up the specifications for the manufacturing of a new fabric-Orlon. After marrying Harold, she began work with the Civil Service at Camp Lejeune retiring in 1986. She and Harold were married in 1950, and enjoyed 65 years together before his passing in 2015.
Lemerle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She was a sixty-year member of Chapter 225 of the Order of The Eastern Star. After her retirement, she and Harold managed the Adult Week at Camp Rainbow for many years. They also enjoyed traveling with their friends-at home and abroad.
She was preceded in death by husband, Harold V. Abbott; and brother, Durward P. Jackson.
Survivors include her sister, Hellen Jackson of Carrollton, GA; and her special family, Lois, Bobbie, and Bob Dupuis and Betty Geary.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Coastal Carolina Community College, The Harold V. & Lemerle J. Abbott Scholarship Fund, 444 Western Blvd., Jacksonville, NC 28546.
