Saguache resident Josephine Abeyta, 83, passed away September 24, 2018 at her Home under Hospice Care surrounded by her loving family. Josephine came into the world on May 9, 1935, the beloved daughter of Ruben Cordova and Adelina Romero Cordova. Josephine worked for and retired from the United States Post Office, working here for many years is where she became a familiar face to many people of the community she served. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Joe Abeyta on October 16, 1956. Josephine was an exceptional and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed cooking and baking, baking pies was her specialty and above all she cherished the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. She is already dearly missed.
Survivors include her loving husband Joe Abeyta of Saguache, CO; daughter Linda (Spencer) Swartz of Grand Junction, CO; son Glen (Doris) Abeyta of Alamosa, CO; three grandchildren Kayla (Ken) Covington, Jared Swartz, Jennifer (Tony) Reyes, great-grandchildren Antonio Reyes, Jayden Reyes, Brysen Reyes, Nevaeh Reyes, Carter Swartz, Trae Swartz, Amaya Swartz, Sarah Covington, Madison Covington and one great-grandchild on the way, sisters Cleo Bell of Sand Springs, OK; Addie Salazar of Los Sauces, CO; and one brother Felix Cordova of Manassa, CO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents Ruben and Adelina Cordova and one brother Ruben Cordova Jr.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 7:00 PM at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Saguache. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:00 AM also at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Chicago Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa.
