Lela Brooks Abbey, 90, of Laurel, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville with burial in Tuckers Crossing Cemetery. Eddie Bryant and Lt. Col. John Morehead will officiate. A homemaker, Mrs. Abbey was a member of Tuckers Crossing Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evan Brooks and Annie Ates Brooks; her husband, Chester Abbey; her brothers; and her sister. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Sylvia Abbey of Downsville, La., and the Rev. Charles and Katherine Abbey of Vicksburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Ester and James Patterson of Laurel; nine grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Ellisville, which is in charge of arrangements.
