Obituary for Virginia Abbott (Satterthwait)
It is with great sadness that Virginia’s family announces her passing, Friday, February 1, 2019, although quickly and peacefully in her sleep at Shepherd of the Valley, Casper, WY.

Virginia was born in Reno, NV December 7, 1921. She was baptized August 8, 1926 in Johnson, MN. Her family found their way to Casper, WY from MN in 1929 where they settled. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Casper, WY June 9, 1935. Virginia’s parents were Lawrence Edward Satterthwait and Tillie “Mass” Satterthwait. She grew up with 7 brothers and sisters; brothers-Marvin Satterthwait, Donald Satterthwait, and Richard Matthews; sisters-Lavern Kirch, Zelda Dunn, Deanna Cowan, and Evelyn Ray. She loved her siblings very much, and later-their families, and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

She attended school and graduated from Natrona County High School July 1, 1939. She met the love of her life, Roland Richard Abbott, they moved to Nevada for his job, and were married October 26, 1941 in Reno. They returned to and stayed in Casper, WY in 1943. They had 3 children; Laurence “Larry” Richard Abbott of Grand Junction, Colorado; Randall Roland Abbott of Casper, WY, and Cynthia Lorene “Abbott” Nolan of Casper, WY.

During her married years, she worked as bookkeeper at Cotter Battery and Motive Machine in Casper, WY. She also assisted her husband with his business. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and an officer in the Ladies Society. She was a den mother and assisted her sons in Little Leagues, her daughter in 4-H, and was a member of Natrona County Senior Citizens Volunteer Program. Virginia was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing clothes and crocheting, hosting family meals, her occasional night cap-Green Grasshopper, a sweet treat-chocolate Frosty from Wendy’s, shopping with her daughter, being outside tending to her flowers, and in later years hanging out with her grandchildren, solving crosswords in the newspaper, and playing bingo. Sadly, she became widowed July 4, 1980.

Virginia loved the Lord and was a strong Christian woman. She was very witty, stubborn, and a spit fire of a lady. She had a huge heart and a great love for her family and friends. Her children’s friends loved her, and enjoyed spending time at their house and she loved them there, boys rough housing, and the girls sleep overs and dance/pajama parties. She made the kids cream cheese dip with lots of Pepsi! (Per her daughter’s best friend, and my God-Mother, Cheryl Masterson). As her children grew, married, and had children of their own, she stayed in touch and enjoyed every minute of time with her grandchildren, then great grandchildren. She helped take care of them, and keep them busy with extra-curricular activities. She also had no problem putting them to work and leading them by the ears when they were causing mischief. She would do anything she could for any one of us. She was also great about keeping in touch with and updating family with cards and letters, telling stories, and bringing us together whenever she could, usually with the great food she would cook. You wouldn’t go hungry visiting her. We are all thankful for her, were blessed to have had her in our lives, and will always have a great love and admiration for her.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all 3 of her children. She leaves behind her sister, Evelyn, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Services will be private with immediate family. Memorial donations may be made to her family, care of Tricia Edwards, at P. O. Box 50184, Casper, WY 82605. Virginia’s cremains will be buried next to her husband, as she wished, at Memorial Gardens in Casper, WY.
