Obituary for Bonnie Lea Meadows
Bonnie Lea Barnes Meadows age 78, passed away at Dogwood Crossing Assisted Living and Memory Care in Tazewell Virginia after suffering from a lengthy illness.
She grew up and lived at Jewell Ridge on Middle Creek until she and her husband moved their young family to Midland, VA in Fauquier County VA; she was 27. Several years later she moved to Stafford VA. During her lifetime she worked in manufacturing, waitressing, and care giving. She was 70 years old when she became unable to continue working. Her last position was with a catering company, that catered to the Marines stationed at the Quantico Marine base in Prince William County. She moved back to Richlands in 2011.
Bonnie went through many chapters throughout her life, and one could say, there was never a dull moment. She loved children and playing with them. “Though she be but little, she is fierce” by William Shakespeare describes the little woman that we called mom and/or Grandma Bonnie. As a child she loved to pull pranks on the children she was growing up with. As a young mother, she played and was sometimes as mischievous as her children. She was a hard worker and loved to have fun too. She loved animals and always fed the birds and squirrels. She also loved and missed her cat dearly. She was loved by many, and we all will miss this little woman.
She was born August 21, 1940, and was the daughter of late Thelma Lucille Mitchell Barnes and Marshall Kermit Barnes. She grew up in the home of her maternal grandparents, the late James and Barbara Ethel Mitchell in Jewell Ridge, Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Avery Meadows; Son, Randal Perry Meadows; Daughter, Donna Gail Meadows Abel, and husband Jerry Abel; Sister, Kathy Barnes Gilbert
Those who remain to carry on her spirit are:
Son: Harold Lee Meadows and wife Judy of Remington, VA
Daughter: Diana Lynn Stinson, and husband Billy of Cedar Bluff, VA
Brothers: Robert Brown of Nacogdoches, TX, and James (Jimmy) Brown of Galax, VA
Sister, Nancy Purschert of Goldsboro, MD
7 Grandchildren: Angelina (Angie) Dawn Meadows Sutphin, Dwayne Keith Hicks, Marla Salyers, Ashlie Marshall, Lisa Lockhart, Jerry (Bud) Ray Abel, Jr, Crystal Nichols
