A.A. Abbott Dead.
This morning at 7:30, A.A. Abbott, one of Arkansas City's oldest residents, died at the family home on West Chestnut Avenue. He was taken sick about the first of May, but was up and around until five weeks ago, when he took to his bed. His disease is supposed to have been catarrh of the stomach, which caused him intense suffering to the last when death came to his relief.
Mr. Abbott was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1836 and was therefore 71 years ago age. He came to Winfield in the fall of 1885 and to Arkansas City in the spring of 1886, where he has resided ever since. While living at Tyrone City, Pa., he answered the first call for nine months service in the war of the Rebellion. After serving his time he re-enlisted for three years and served until the close of the war. At the evacuation of Richmond, Va., he was serving as captain of Cavalry.
Mr. Abbott leaves a widow and daughter, Mrs. Della Stillwell, whose son Ralph Stillwell is somewhere in Oklahoma.
Funeral arrangements have not been made as relatives have been notified but it is not known when they will arrive. The funeral will probably not be held before Monday or Tuesday, of which due notice will be given.

The Last Roll Call Answered by the Old Veteran.
A.A. Abbott died at his home on West Chestnut avenue Saturday morning at 7:30, aged three days less than 72 years. His death was the result of a stomach trouble commonly diagnosed as catarrh of the stomach.
Mr. Abbott was one of the familiar personages in Arkansas City. he lived here upwards of twenty years and whenever he met a citizen he met a friend. He was engaged in the blacksmith business and continued to work at his trade until a few months ago, when he was obliged to quit on account of the disease which finally caused his death. He was a veteran of the civil war and was proud of his service. He made an application for a pension late in life and only secured the allowance last year. He was a member of the A.O.U.W. in which order he carried $2,000 life insurance.
He leaves a widow, one daughter, Mrs. Della Stillwell and grandson, Ralph Stillwell. Funeral services were held at the residence on Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. L.M. Riley, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment at the Riverview cemetery.
