15 October 1903, page 1:

William P. Aaron, while cleaning bedrock in his placer diggings on Spring gulch, was seriously injured by a cave-in of the bank last Friday afternoon. His little eight-year-old daughter was playing near him and was caught in the gravel and instantly killed. The accident. The accident occurred within 50 feet of the cabin. Mrs. Aaron was watching her husband work, and so quickly did the bank give way, there was no warning whatever. Mrs. Aaron dug out her husband, whom she found to be seriously injured. She then rushed across California gulch, where she met Lofton and Thompson, who quickly rushed to the scene of the accident. They at once proceeded to dig out the child, and when recovered it was dead. A messenger was sent to Laurin who telephoned for Dr. J. J. Mahoney. The doctor drove rapidly to Aaron's home. He found him in a critical condition, as several ribs had been broken and forced into the lungs, besides other painful injuries. It was thought at first that he could not survive, but at this writing he is improving and hopes are now entertained for his recovery. The child was buried Sunday, the remains being interred in the Laurin cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Aaron have the sympathy and kindly assistance of the people not only in that neighborhood, but in this city as well, where Mr. Aaron formerly worked.

•The age of the young daughter is conflicted. The attached article from 'The Dillon Examiner' reports her age as three and this may be the more likely, as Mr. and Mrs. Aaron were married on November 8, 1896, not quite seven years previous to the accident.
