Emma Gertrude Stevens Abercrombie was the daughter of James Charles Stevens, Sr. and Martha Stevens. She is the sister of James Charles Stevens, Jr.; Martha C. Stevens (Mrs. James H. Linn); William Stevens; Charles Stevens; and Ella Stevens. She was born in London, England on June 18, 1844 and came with her father's family to this country at age 5. They settled in Keithsburg, Mercer, IL. She married Joseph Henderson Abercrombie (b. 8-31-1835, d. 7-13-1920)on 9-29-1868, Keithsburg, Mercer County, IL. She was a teacher. Five children of this marriage: Gertrude Abercrombie, 1st child who died at age 3; Claude Chester Abercrombie (b.10-13-1872, d. 1-15-1928, 2nd child); Lallie Abercrombie (Mrs. H. G. Knickerbocker);a male, no name of certificate, is Thomas Abercrombie (b. 3-23-1879, 4th child); Ruth Abercrombie (Mrs. W. C. Porter)(b. 5-18-1885, 5th child).
