Alden "Abe" Abraham 78, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2019, in his own bed in Minneapolis, with his wife, Elizabeth (Bette), by his side.
A native of Richland, he attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln for his B.S. Degree in accounting. He served as an officer in the Navy for 3.5 years, and then served in the reserves while he attended law school. He became a partner with Arthur Anderson before owning Top Tool Co., a manufacturing company which produced micro miniature components, mostly for the medical device industry.
In a world that is increasingly unrecognizable and confusing, he has been a constant anchor for what is good and right. His calmness, intellect, patience, integrity, dry sense of humor and generosity were hallmarks of his character. He was guided by three principles: to be a good man, to always be kind, and to treat people the way he would like to be treated.
Abe was a philanthropist and a strong supporter of education. He funded numerous scholarships for many different colleges and universities. He and his loving wife of 49 years traveled extensively, mostly in Europe. He loved life and fought prostate cancer for over 22 years.
Abe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Minneapolis; two sisters, Florence Stevenson of Richland, Elaine Abraham of Schuyler; brother-in-law, John (Tamara) Havens of Lexington, Massachusetts; and sister-in-law, Jean Cook of New Port Richey, Florida; four nephews: Ben Havens Lexington, Daniel (Suzanne) Stevenson of Columbus, Kenneth (Denise) Stevenson of Richland, Thomas (Julie) Stevenson of Aurora; and niece, Julie Havens of Arlington; seven great- nieces and nephews: Rylee, Emily, Zachary, Jordan, Madison, Nicholas, and Nathan.
Abe is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Abraham; three sisters: Joyce Svasek, Eleanor Moural, and LaVerna Abraham; and one brother, Donald Abraham; and two brothers-in-law, Ward Stevenson, Jr,, and Peter Havens.
