Joe “Joey”, born in Embudo and a longtime resident of Española, was predeceased by his parents Charlie Sr. and Floraida Abeyta; brothers: Charlie Jr. and Mike Abeyta; grandson Martín Palacios Jr.; nieces: Lorena Casteñeda, Ernestina “Tina” Domínguez, and Melinda “Mindy” Abeyta; great-nephew Oscar Casteñeda; and brother-in-law Estevan Gallegos.
Joe was survived by his three children: Vanessa Martinez and Heather López, and Daniel Ray López; sisters Eida Domínguez (Tony), Lorraine Archuleta (Roy), Polly Gallegos, Nora Marrufo (Manuel), Loyola Sena (Rick), Vivian Vega, and Eva Varela (Lorenzo); brothers: Leroy Abeyta (Magdalena), Rudy Abeyta (Alice), and Ivan Abeyta (Sylvia); ten grandchildren: Leticia Martinez, Camila Palacios, Jesús Palacios, José Palacios, Matthew Martinez, Nyci Rodríguez, Isabella Rodríguez, Isaiah Rodríguez, Amaya Aguirres and Reina Aguirres; thirty-two nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces; and many cousins and friends.
Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Viewing was held at Rivera Family Funeral Home and Cremations of Española on 24 September 2020 for immediate family. Services were held 28 September 2020 at Victory Faith. Internment followed in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery.
