Folk Figure. She was a young Egyptian girl, who suffered from a rare medical condition called craniopagus parasiticus, a type of conjoined twins who are attached at the head and one fails to develop completely in the mother's womb, becoming completely dependent on the other. Manar, Islaam's twin developed fully but Islaam was fully dependant upon her to stay alive. When Manar's health started to fail in February 2005, the twins underwent a 13 hour operation in Benha, Egypt, to seperate the twins. The operation was a success, but Islaam passed away shortly afterwards. On May 28 Manar returned home with her family. On March 26, 2006, she died from a brain infection. The twins' story was national news. They appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show in October 2005 with their mother and doctor, were featured on a special program on the Discovery Channel called "Born With Two Heads," on October 2, 2005, and on the British television Channel 4 series, "Bodyshock," on February 20, 2006.
