Lee S. Abernathy, 91, of Paris, Illinois, passed away at 5:57 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2021, at home. He was retired after many years as a mechanic and the owner and operator of Pop's Garage.

He was born September 29, 1929, in Ripley, Mississippi, the son of the late Thomas and Georgia (Baker) Vickers. He married Opal May West on May 24, 1947, in Marshall, Illinois. She preceded him in death on September 9, 2015.

Survivors include seven children, Bob (Joyce) Abernathy and Jerry (Carol) Abernathy both of Paris, Linda Kay Bernard of Piscataway, New Jersey, Jim (Vicky) Abernathy of Trinity, Texas, and Rick (Caryn) Abernathy, Mike (Janet) Abernathy, and Christina Starr all of Paris; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; as well as a dear friend Janet Joseph and her family of Paris. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Mr. Abernathy was a member of Paris Lodge #268 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Paris Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Marshall, Illinois, Moose Lodge. Lee will be remembered as a busy, hard-working man who always wore a smile.
