Kembel "Bud" Dahl, 80, of Sidney, Cremation will follow the services, and interment will be held at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery in Valley City, N.D. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge of arrangements.

Kembel "Bud" was born on March 31, 1927, in Valley City, N.D., the son of Kembel and Laurel (Kuecks) Dahl, Sr. He grew up and attended school at St. Catherine's Catholic School in Valley City, ND. Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy two days before his graduation ceremony. He was honorably discharged at the end of World War II. Following his discharge, Bud returned to Valley City, N.D., where he attended Valley City State Teachers College and received his teaching certificate. When the Korean War started, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Army and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and received a medical discharge in 1951. Bud was united in marriage on Aug. 3, 1951, to Mary Lou McKee at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Valley City. He taught art and U.S. history at Oriska, N.D., before moving on to Braddock to become an administrator. While Bud was the school administrator, he was working on his master's degree through NDSU. He and his family moved to Flasher, N.D.; Colfax, N.D., and then to Fairview, Mont., before moving to Wallhalla, N.D. Bud retired from the field of education to pursue being a bar owner, OK Corral, with his wife in Beach, N.D. They sold the bar in 1983 and Bud became the Superintendent of Schools. His wife died in June of 1989, and Bud remained in Beach. The years that followed found him visiting friends, hunting and fishing until health reasons brought him to live at Crestwood Inn in Sidney in September of 2003. He made friends there and got to visit with some of his great-grandchildren.
Bud was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW, Lions Club and the Elks Lodge.
Kembel "Bud" entered the Sidney Health Center on Nov. 30, 2007, and died on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007.

Surviving him are five daughters, Kristy (Keith) Mickelson, Hitterdal, Minn., Vicky (Terry) Cayko, Fairview, Sherry (Val) Hirst, Fillmore, Utah, Michele Dinkel, Lake Park, Minn., and Janice (Bruce) Freeberg, Grants Pass, Ore.; two brothers, Francis (Joyce) Dahl, Sidney and Erling (Jean) Dahl, Hettinger, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Eldora Dahl, Beach, N.D.; eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou; brother, Ken Dahl, and infant grandson, McHenry Dinkel.
