Janie Elizabeth Abbott (Gangy) Hale
Janie Elizabeth Abbott (Gangy) Hale, 62 years of age of Oakwood, VA, entered into eternal rest with the Lord, and her son William, Thursday, December 31, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Grundy, VA, from an apparent heart attack. Born in Bristol, VA, August 14, 1947, she was the daughter of Marie Minton Abbott of Oakwood, VA and the late Ceba Chapman Abbott .She was of the Pentecostal Faith, a licensed L.P.N., having worked for Dr. V. Modi and Dr. D. Patel until ill health forced her to retire, but she continued to be a caregiver for the elderly in her family. She was a avid gardener, enjoyed raising vegetables and caring for her flowers. Janie took pride in being able to mow her mother's yard, cooking for others, making homemade butter, mixed pickles and homemade candies. She was very gifted in crafting, sewing and making her children's clothing when they were young. She had made several hand painted homemade quilts and costumes for her children and grandchildren. She was a history buff, constantly reading history books. She had a deep respect for all Veterans. Janie was a charter organizer and active member of the Gift of Love Light House Ministries for over 20 years; spent countless hours volunteering her time and energy helping others. She will be greatly missed by all the volunteers of the Gift of Love Ministry. She was one of the founding members of the Garden Green Dragon Museum. In September of 2009 she took her first plane ride to Washington, DC with Douglas, Rhoda and Lucas and toured several historical monuments, and had the honor of touring the White House, she said this was the "best vacation of her life". Loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. The joy of her life was helping her daughter Rhoda and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her son, William (Will) Daniel Hale, December 1, 2004. She is survived by her mother, Marie Minton Abbott of Oakwood, VA; daughter, Rhoda Marie Shortridge and husband, Douglas of Grundy, VA; sister, Lois Null and husband Roger of Oakwood, VA; brother, Richard Abbott and wife Cathy of Kingston, TN. Also survived by three grandsons, Nathaniel Klay Hale of Lebanon, VA, Caleb Daniel Hale of Lebanon, VA and Lucas Deniska Shortridge of Grundy, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services for Janie Elizabeth Abbott (Gangy) Hale will be conducted Monday, January 4, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelists Roger and Lois Null, Pastor Wade McGeorge and Sister Beulah Shortridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA. Active pallbearers will be: Roger Null, Douglas Shortridge, Rayburn Minton, II, Robert Rayburn (Robbie) Minton, Junior Nichols and Pete Minton.Honorary pallbearers will be: All Gift of Love Volunteers, Dr. D. Patel, Dr. J.P. Sutherland, Jr., Johnny and Eloise Scott, Doug and Becky Elkins and Tammy Williamson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6:00 p.m. Saturday. Song service will be held Saturday at 7:00 p.m.. A tribute service will be Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gift of Love Lighthouse Ministries, P.O.
