Edward Eugene Abernathy Sr., 69, Athens, died Sunday at a medical facility.

The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with Michael White officiating. Burial will be in Oneal Cemetery.

Mr. Abernathy was a retired brick mason.

Survivors include two daughters, Bridget Anne Jackson of Dayton, Ohio, and Jeannie Garrett of Knoxville, TN; a son, Edward Eugene Abernathy Jr. of Wetumpka, AL; four brothers, Thomas Allison Abernathy of Athens, Lifford D. Abernathy of Foley, Dennis Abernathy of Gladewater, Texas, and Billy Wayne Abernathy of Pahokee, FL; two sisters, Ethel M. Clark and Gladys Brown, both of Athens; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
