Helen Winifred Bailey was born on August 15, 1913 in Kossuth County, Algona, Iowa to George and Grace (Byers)Bailey. She moved with her parents to their farm northwest of Canby, MN. in 1914. She attended District #97 country school through the eighth grade. Her mother passed away when Helen was 11 years old, and she helped to care for her younger brother and sister.
On October 6, 1934 Helen was married to Lewis Heaton. He passed away in June of 1949. Helen continued farming with her father until 1957, when she obtained her highschool certificate. She attended Willmar Vocational Nursing School and became a licensed practical nurse in 1958. She worked at the Canby hospital and Nursing Home, and later worked as a nurse in Sacramento, Ca. and Algona, Ia. In July of 1979 Helen ws married to Otis Abbott. Otis pssed away in August of 1998.
Helen is survived by her five children: Kenneth of Bullhead City, AZ., Grace (Francis) Rabaey of Taunton, Mn., Edith (Woodrow) Nold of Irvine, CA., Lewis (Waneta) of Big Stone City, MN., and Janice Fleener of Bullhead City, AZ. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and her sister Margery Houk of Alta Loma, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis; husband, Otis; a great-grandson; and her brother, Wendell.
