Jack Abbott Jr. was born Aug. 21, 1919 in Rocky Ford, Colo. to Jack and Elizabeth (Comer) Abbott. He attended school in Oak Creek, Colo. He started working in the coal mines in Oak Creek in 1939 and worked there for 11 years before moving to Carlsbad in 1948. He was employed with IMCC for two years then moved to Duval mine where he worked for the next 30 years. Jack was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the men's Sunday school class. He was active until his health began to fail. His hobby was restoring old cars.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Carol Ann Perrone, and sister, Edith Carlson.
He is survived by his wife Darlyne of the family home; stepdaughters, Judy Jones of Roswell, Cheryl Vickers and husband Tommy of Carlsbad, and Cathy Robinson and husband Dean of Midland, Texas. Step grandchildren are Brant Jones and wife Mindi of Roswell, Tammy Collins and husband Travis of Albuquerque, Callie Mayrhofen and husband Kyle, Britni Vickers of Carlsbad, Lane Gossett of Midland, and Sean Vickers and Vicki of Albuquerque, and step-great grandchildren Cason Jones of Roswell and Ryan Collins of Albuquerque and Alex Mayrhofen of Carlsbad.
Honorary pallbearers were Brant Jones, Ed McAnally, Connie Mack Riley, Sam Bradley, Bill Brooks, Alan Baldridge, Gerald harden and Jim Calloway.
