Martha Erwin Abell Hatcher
August 5, 2022

Martha Hatcher 73, of Lowrys South Carolina headed home to join her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2022. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is now joyfully worshiping in the presence of her Creator.

Martha was the first daughter of three children born into the loving home of the late Robert Walker (Bob) Abell and the late Julia Faye Atkinson Abell on February 22, 1949. She graduated from Chester High School in 1967. She also received an Associates Degree from York Technical College.

Martha married the love of her life, her hero, Wayne Hatcher on June 27, 1969. Martha lived a life full of love and adventure from helping take care of her grandchildren, to skydiving and wing walking on airplanes. She was continually surrounded by the multitudes of family and friends. Although she was officially retired for many years, Martha continued her true passion of helping people full-time for over 30 years.

Martha was a woman of deep faith, and the true center of her life was Jesus and her dedication to Zion Presbyterian Church; in which she was active in the choir, the cemetery committee, the Women in the Church group, and served in many other capacities as well. She was also a long-time participant in the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) where she taught the children's group.

In addition to church, her service to her community was unmatched as a long-standing member of the Chester County Airport Commission, Lowrys Volunteer Fire Department Board, and was the AARP Tax-Aide State Coordinator in which she received the very prestigious AARP State Andrus Award to honor individuals whose service is unique and a valuable contribution to society.

Martha is survived by her husband Wayne Hatcher, daughter Wendy Hatcher, son Joshua Abell, sister Edith Abell Cantrell (Ray), and a brother Robert Hamilton Abell (Amy). She was the proud grandmother, known as Mamatt, of Jacob Porter, Bailie Porter, and Ashley Bellavance. Martha was preceded in death by her sisters Faye and Rhetta.

Visitation and viewing will be on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the home of Martha's sister, Edie Cantrell at 2196 Old York Road, Chester, SC.
