Betty J. Abbott, 84, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on February 9, 1938, to George and Elsie (Elliot) Schweizer in Turon, Kan. She was united in marriage to Melvin Abbott on October 5, 1963, in Hutchinson, Kan.

Betty was happiest when she was spending time with family. She and Mel also loved to travel. During their 59 years of marriage, they were able to visit all 50 states and went on many cruises. Betty was a bookkeeper for many years, only recently retiring. She was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Salina.

She is survived by her husband, Mel; daughters, Melanie Hancock (Kenny), Melinda Eitel (David), and Melisa McElwee (Kevin); six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and six sisters.

Family will receive visitors from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, October 30, during visitation at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 31, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, with a luncheon to follow. Cremation was chosen. A private burial will be at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, at a later time.
