Mary Sue was born on April 12, 1941, in Lebanon, Kentucky, to Louis Crittenden(LC) and Genevieve (Abell) Rawlings. She had a wonderful childhood growing up on a farm with her five brothers and sisters. She attended St. Augustine Grade School and High School and entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of Loretto when she was 18 years old. She very happily remained a Sister for 13 years, during this time receiving both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at Webster College. After teaching in Louisville, she was assigned to St. Ann Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO. During her tenure at that parish, the Sisters closed the convent there, and she was the last Sister of Loretto at that location. With much support from the parishioners, she remained there as a lay teacher. Later, she moved to Ascension of Chesterfield, MO, where she helped so many children prepare for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Reconciliation. In her 42 years of teaching, she helped shape thousands of children starting their faith formation within the sacraments.
A few years after leaving the convent, she met and married her beloved Richard Rahubka on June 8, 1977and remained married for 42 years until his death.
Mary Sue was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Gay and Tommy Tatum, brother, Crit Rawlings, brother-in-law, Jack Reddick, sister-in-law, Florence Rahubka, niece, Linda Gay Tatum, niece, Kim Greenwell, and nephew, Steve Rahubka. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Reddick of Springfield, KY. and Jane Greenwell (Kenny) of Knoxville, TN, a brother, Bill Rawlings (Judy B.) of Prospect, KY, sister-in-law Judy C. Rawlings, Midway, KY, and a brother in law, David Rahubka, of St.Louis. In addition, she has 18 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. In addition, she was blessed with devoted friends, Jim Winkeler, Marybeth Risley and Paul Winkeler.
Sue was so loved by her fellow teachers as someone who always had a smile on her face and was ready to lend a helping hand. She was always praying for family and friends and offering a rosary for those in need. Beloved by her students, friends and family, she can be fondly remembered by saying, "Oh, Honey!"
Always a teacher at heart, in every aspect of her life, she would quote Dr. Seuss to her students saying, "Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened."
She was cremated with her remains, along with her favorite rosary, to be placed next to her husband's remains.
