She was born in Northampton County on March 7, 1930 and was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Richard Abbott; her mother, Fannie Maude Edwards; her two brothers, William Edwards and Jimmy Edwards and her sister, Gracie Hunsicker.
She retired from Halifax Regional Hospital after 20 plus years. She dedicated many years of service to The Lake Gaston Ladies Club, The Ladies Auxiliary and Wildwood Fire Department, and The Lake Gaston Garden Club.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Josie, such as preparing meals, gardening, the lake, lending a helping hand, her friends and her family. She loved fiercely; and she was very much loved. Josie was respectable, genuine, and noble, with a gracious, loving heart. She was "The Boss". There was only one way to do things; "Josie's Way". She will be dearly missed as she begins her new journey in to Eternity.
Josie is survived by her daughter, Allyson Taylor of Midlothian, VA; her granddaughter, Angie Losch and her husband, Scott of Powhattan, VA; her five grandchildren, Dylan, Trevor, Walker, Kyle and Rachel; her sisters, Frances Moseley of Ahoskie and Jo Ann Hawley of Rocky Mount, NC.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of Askew Funeral Service with Rev. Stan Lewis officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
