Actor. Best known for his role as detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson in the television series Starsky and Hutch. His earliest performances were on the stages of Minnesota, where he was a founding member of the Minneapolis-based Firehouse Theater. From 1967 to 1968 he made appearances on The Merv Griffin Show before transitioning to television shortly thereafter. Early programs featuring his talents included Here Come the Brides, Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law, and Streets of San Francisco. In 1973 he was cast by Clint Eastwood in the film Magnum Force. Two years later he landed his best-known role, when he appeared as the eponymous "Hutch" in Starsky and Hutch. During this part of his career, he also appeared in numerous well-known television programs including I Dream of Jeannie, Gunsmoke, and All in the Family. In 1979 he starred in the television adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem's Lot. In addition to his acting career, he made a foray into the music industry, with the 1977 release of the number-one hit song "Don't Give Up on Us." After the conclusion of the Starsky and Hutch series in 1979, Soul appeared in a number of other syndications including the NBC program Casablanca, Ken Follett's The Key to Rebecca, and the short-lived series The Yellow Rose. Following his relocation to the United Kingdom in the mid-1990's, Soul returned to the stage, appearing in a number of plays at the West End Theatre.
