Singer. He was best known as a member of the Hall of Fame R&B quartet The Spinners. In 1954, he, along with Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, C.P. Spencer, and James Edwards, formed the singing group that later became known as The Spinners. During the following decades, there would be changes to the group members, but their sound remained the same. Their first big hit for Motown, who they were signed by in 1964, was "It's A Shame," which peaked at No. 14 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1970. They would later sign with Atlantic Records and turn out a string of hits that included "Then Came You," which featured singer Dionne Warwick and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. Their songs received six Grammy Award nominations and earned 18 platinum and gold albums. In 2023, he, along with the other members of the group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
