Richard Avery Abbott, age 78, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at The Neighborhoods. He was born on December 17, 1944, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Avery and Minnie (Vanhoose) Abbott. He graduated from Kirksville High School. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teaching College and received his L.P.N. Moberly Area Community College. Richard liked to work in his yard and fiddling with his grass. He had a good sense of humor and his granddaughter Emma was his pride and joy. Richard is survived by his wife Linda Abbott of Columbia; his daughter Carrie Riley of Kirksville; his granddaughter Emma Riley; 3 nieces and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 4 sisters: Mary, Maggie, Buelah, and Stella.
