Mrs. John Abbott Dies at 73 Years After Brief Illness -

Ethel May Case was born at Dunlap April 12, 1873, the eldest in the family of five, born to Charles M. and Eliza Cramer Case. Both parents were members of early pioneer families, who had come from New York State to Peoria County in 1836. Her maternal grandmother was one of the first teachers in that county. In her childhood and youth May was a member of the Prospect Presbyterian church, which was founded in 1855. After the father's death the mother moved with her family to Urbana in 1908. They transferred their church loyalties to the Champaign Presbyterian Church, where May re- tained her membership. She was married August 30, 1923, to John Bryan Abbott of a pioneer family from Ohio and came to his home in Mahomet, Ill., where she had taken an active part in the work of the Baptist church and in the interests of the community. She was happy in bringing happiness into the home and to her friends and loved ones, especially to the little children. Hers was a busy life of thoughtful, helpful, loving deeds.

Her last illness was of short duration. A week before she was out among her loved flowers and on Sunday, June 16, her mortal life was ended. She is survived by her husband, two brothers and two sisters: Arthur J. Case and Mrs. Nellie Bowser of Cham- paign, Flora M. Case of Elkhart, Indiana, and H. C. M. Case of Urbana, also five nieces and one nephew. Funeral services were held at the Morrison Funeral Home in Mahomet Tuesday, June 18, at 11 a. m., conducted by the Rev. A. Ray Cartlidge of the Champaign Presbyterian church who was assisted by the Rev. C. B. Hilton of the Mahomet Baptist Church. Interment was in the Abbott Family Lot in Riverside Cemetery near Mahomet.
