Abbot, Mrs. Francinkey

Thursday February 10, 1859
On the 31st day of December 1858, it pleased Almighty God to suffer the ruthless hand of death to snatch from our midst, our beloved friend and sister Mrs. Francinkey Abbot.
We bow in humble submission to the dispensations of the Supreme Disposer of events. He orders all things wisely and well; but we would not refrain from an expression of our grief at the loss of one so long and favorably known to this community. And who has known her but to love her?
In the death of Mrs. Abbot it is not unfair to say that community has lost its most valuable member. Among the earliest pioneers of this valley, few there are who have not shared her hospitalities; and when sickness or death has visited our families, prostrating ourselves or smiting our loved ones; influenced her ever active kindness, when has not her cheerful presence beguiled the lone vigils of the night in ministering to the wants of the sufferer, and soothing the anguish of the wrung heart.
Her religion was a sentiment of the mind, and was manifested in her love towards her fellows; pure in mind and tho't she loved virtue for virtues sake, and hated vice because it was vice, with heart and "hand open as day in deeds of melting charity." She lived out her devotion to God in acts of practical good to his creatures.
But she is gone from our midst. "The place that has known her, will know her no more forever," and while this feeble tribute to her many virtues is prompted by the love we bear her memory, let us not forget that in all her relations of wife, mother, sister, friend and neighbor, she was a pattern worthy of imitation.
Resolved, That we tender to the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy and confidence,
Resolved, That in token of our respect for her death, that the daughters of Rebekah Lodge belonging to Meshe Knuhghqnoh Lodge be requested to wear a collar of crape for the period of 30 days,
Resolved, That the Secretary of Meshe Knuhghqnoh Lodge of which brother David Abbot, the husband of our deceased friend and sister, is a member, be furnished a copy of this memorial and these resolutions; and likewise that they be furnished to the parents and family of the deceased; and that a copy be also furnished the "Columbia City News," and the Wabash papers for publication.
