William Parsons was an engineer with Millers Creek,NC Volunteer Fire Department.
He was driving the engine tanker from Millers Creek Station 2 to a house fire. When he arrived, he slumped over the wheel.
"He told the firefighter riding with him that he wasn't feeling well, and that his chest hurt. It felt like there was something sitting on his chest," said Capt. Matt Triplett.
He was treated by paramedics on the scene, and transported to Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was then transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center via Air Care. He died early the next morning.
Chief Jason Smithey described Parsons as a very active member who will be missed. He joined the fire department eight years ago.
He was born in Wilkes County to Albert Turner and Ruby Clemmons Dequasie Parsons. He formerly worked for the NC Dept of Corrections for 18 years and for The Logger Shop. Mr. Parsons was currently working for the North Carolina Forest Service as a forest ranger. He was a member of Millers Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and a former member of the Cricket Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Parsons was also a member of the Wilkes County FAST Team. He was a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church.
A brother, James Gary Parsons preceded him in death.
He is survived by: his wife, Helen Lorinda Triplett Parsons of the home; two daughters, Susan Elaine Goldman and husband, Glenn of Panama City, FL, April Parsons of the home; one son, Nicholas Preston Parsons of Hemat, CA; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Noel Goldman, William Lawrence Goldman, Cody Lee Parsons and Matthew Dillon Parsons.
