Effie Kinder Turner Smith age 86, of Barbourville, was born on October 4, 1922 at Artemus. She was a daughter of the late James Kinder and Fannie Mae Hammons Kinder. Mrs. Smith died at her home, Monday, March 23, 2009.

She was a fast food cook for the Dairy Queen in Barbourville before retiring.

In 1939 she united in marriage to Vernon Turner and to this union three children were born. Her husband, Vernon preceded her in death.

In 1948 she united in marriage to John H. Smith and to this union two children were born. Her husband, John preceded her in death. Two Sons, Charles and Homer, Sisters; Myrtle Turner, Rosa Smith and Elsie Abner and Brothers, John, Lawrence, Charlie and George Kinder also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Kenneth Turner and wife, Betty of Barbourville; daughters; Betty Jordan of Corbin and Joann Chavies of Georgia; a special granddaughter who cared for Mrs. Smith, Angela Jones of Barbourville, other loving grandchildren; Michael Jordan and wife, Sheila of Detroit,Michigan; Charles Larry Turner and wife, Diane of Indianapolis, Indiana; Kenny Shawn Turner and wife, Nicole of Barbourville; Diane Turner of Clifford, Michigan; Joy Chavies of Georgia and Brandon Frederick who was like a grandson to Mrs. Smith; great grandchildren; Timmy Turner, Brian Tyler Turner, Austin Turner, Chase Turner, Deven Jones and Dylan Jones.

Funeral Services for Effie Kinder Turner Smith will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, March 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Earl Hammons and Rev. William Bruner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with Kenny Shawn Turner, Jim Jones, Michael Jordan, Johnatan Roberts, Mark Jordan, Norton Bright and Brandon Frederick serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Staff of Hospice of the Bluegrass; Dr. Talmadge Hays and staff at the Pineville Community Hospital. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home Thursday, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday after 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m.
