George C. Lohr, Once Osage Boy, Died in South Dakota

The Estellline, South Dakota Journal reports the death of George C. Lohr, an Osage boy who went to South Dakota in 1878 and made it his home the rest of his life. He was a brother to Frank, Fred and Miss Amelia Lohr. His death occurred March 1.

George and his father, Peter Lohr, and a Mr. Ramsdahl went to the Estelline community in the year 1878, and filed on the land which was ever after his home, as the town grew up around it. He and his father donated the land for the platting of the town.

When the town was started he and his brother, Charles, now deceased, engaged in the machine business.

Later he was with the Clark & Weigant Drug Store, and there he established the first post office and was the first postmaster, serving until he was relieved during the Cleveland administration.

Mr. Lohr was born in Osage on August 2, 1856, growing uphere and learning the cabinet-maker's trade.

It was after he had settled in South Dakota that he married Miss Aletha Abbott in 1888. She died leaving two small daughters, Louise and Mabel.

On November 28, 1912, he married Mrs. Annie Clark Thompson, who with the daughters survive him.
