June D. Akin of Cheyenne, Wyo., died there Tuesday in United Medical Center.

She was born June 9, 1909, in Culbertson to Albert and Marie Donaldson.

She graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula in 1930 and moved to Whitehall, where she taught fifth grade, English, and Spanish in the school system.

On June 9, 1931, she married Thomas Clyde Akin in Culbertson and they made their home in Whitehall for more than 50 years, celebrating their 50th anniversary in 1981. She was a 50-year plus member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Delta Delta Delta and the Order of Eastern Star, where she was past matron of the Whitehall chapter.

In 1989, June moved to Cheyenne to be near her daughter Ann Swisher. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cheyenne for 15 years. June was an avid bridge player and met many new friends playing bridge. She also loved music and enjoyed being able to attend concerts and other musical programs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Michael Swisher, Cheyenne; nephews and nieces, Clyde and Becky Donaldson, Billings, Sue and Jack Harper, Portland, Ore.; and a special friend, Mary Salsbury, Bigfork.

June was preceded in death by her husband Clyde in 1983, parents, brother M.C. Donaldson, and sisters Lorraine Westfall and Alberta Schmiedeskamp.

Funeral services are Saturday in Cheyenne. In Whitehall, visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 in K&L Mortuaries. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Whitehall Cemetery, with the Rev. Dee Anna of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating.
