Noel S. Aasen, 80, South Long Lake, Brainerd, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1920, in Bemidji to Lars and Agnes (Rude) Aasen. He served as a U.S. Marine in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After being discharged, he and his brother, Melvin, owned and operated the Mel-No Mink Fur Farm. He then worked for Northern Pacific/Burlington Northern Railroad for 34 years. He married Pearl Nelson on Sept. 10, 1950. He was an active member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brainerd.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Nancy Aasen-Toussaint and Charlene Irwin, both of Los Angeles, Diane Steinkopf, Brainerd, and Karen Epple, Minneapolis; a son, Barry Aasen, Baxter; and five grandchildren.

Three brothers and a sister died earlier.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brainerd with pastors Brian Wermager, Andrew Prin and Richard Lafer officiating. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
