Eddie R. McFarland, 81, of 419 McBarnes St., died at 5 a.m. today in the Shane Hill Nursing Home, Rockford, Ohio, following an extended illness.
A native of Marion County, he was born September 27, 1900, the son of Lee and Lillie Smith-McFarland and was a retired farmer. He was married to Cora Ellen Hendricks of Berne on March 24, 1927. She passed away on August 4, 1971.
Mr. McFarland was a member of the former St. Paul's Missionary Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wendell (Imogene M.) Abbott of Rt. 3 and Mrs. David (Edith) Cole of Decatur; two brothers, Melvin of Roachdale, Ind. and Fred McFarland of Roanoke; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One sister, Stella Morrow, is deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Decatur Missionary Church, with Rev. Robert Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the Gillig-Doan & Sefton Funeral Home. The body will be moved to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
