Oriette Lenander, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in the White Care Center in White.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto with the Rev. Aaron Matson and the Rev. Roger Lenander officiating. Burial is in the Toronto Cemetery in rural Toronto. Visitation is from 5– 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Wednesday in the Houseman Family Funeral Home in Toronto and will resume on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service.

Oriette SeDell Moe was born Sept. 3, 1922, in rural Astoria, the third child of Edwin and Ruth (Erickson) Moe.

She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Astoria. She attended rural schools and Astoria public school, graduating in 1942. She worked for several families in the Astoria and Brandt community.

She also worked at various businesses in Marshall, Minn., and Astoria.

On Feb. 14, 1945, she married Harry Lenander of Toronto, at the Bethany Lutheran Parsonage in Astoria.

The couple farmed northwest of Toronto and in 1957. They moved to a farm southwest of Toronto and farmed there until 1985, when they retired and moved to Toronto.

She worked at the White Care Center as a cook for several years. She also worked at the Deubrook Elementary School as a library aid, kitchen assistant and in other capacities. For several years she was the news correspondent for the Toronto Herald, Tri-City Star and Clear Lake Courier.

Oriette was a member of the Leganger Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and participated in the WELCA. She served on the Deubrook Community Library Board and was a member of the Sons of Norway.

Coming from a very musical family, Oriette enjoyed countless hours of sharing her musical talents with others by singing and playing the piano and accordian.

She also enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, crafts, traveling, visiting family and friends.

Oriette especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include her children, Ruth (Harlan) Lenning of Toronto, Nancy (Rick) Habeck of Le Mars, Iowa, and Douglas (Susan) Lenander of Colby, Wis.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann (Lyle) Aaberg of Brookings; one brother, Carroll (Diann) Moe of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Janet Moe of Brookings, Stella Graham of Custer and Donna Lenander of Yucca Valley, Calif.; brothers-in law, Andy (Olga) Lenander of Watertown, Curt (Betty) Lenander of Yuma, Ariz., Kenneth (Eileen) Sletten of Tracy, Minn., and Leslie (Dorothy) Sletten of Custer and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Merrill Peterson and Elaine Elmore; one brother, Elroy Moe and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Palmer.
