Mrs. Sven Skaar, 74, Dies; Services Held Sunday at Mapleside

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Friends Meeting House, Mapleside, for Mrs. Sven Skaar, 74, who died Dec 22 at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Gaudian Funeral Home.

Mrs. Skaar had been living in Primghar. Until about 15 years ago the Skaar family had lived in the Gaza vicinity.

Mrs. Skaar, the former Myrtle Theresa Hagen, was born Sept. 5, 1891, at Minneapolis, Minn. She was married to Mr. Skaar Sept. 4, 1912, at the Hagen family home near Gaza, Iowa. Mr. Skaar died Feb. 21, 1959. Mrs. Skaar lived most of her life near Primghar.

Survivors include two sons, Eldon Skaar of San Lorenzo, Calif., and Carl Skaar of Gaza; a daughter, Mrs. Bert Van Heuvelin of Primghar; two brothers, Omar Hagen of Primghar and Arlo Hagen of Gaza; four sisters, Mrs. Thea Meling of Primghar, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Tjossem Mrs. Gladys Skaar of Gaza, Miss Esther Hagen of Hammond, Minn., and Mrs. Ruth Kleinhexsel of Waterloo, Iowa; nine grand children and four great granchildren.
