Clara Francisca Abelbeck was born August 31, 1897, at Bennett (sic), Nebr., the daughter of Robert and Ida Wenzel Kettelhut, and died at the Belle-View Manor Nursing Home in Belleville November 18, 1981, at the age of 84 years, two months and 18 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She moved with her parents to the Deshler area at the age of 12.

On December 6,1918, she was united in marriage to August F.W. Abelbeck at Byron. Four children were born to the union. They farmed in the Byron-Chester area until Mr. Abelbeck's death in 1953. She moved to Hebron where she worked in the office of Dr. Keiger for five years, and then with Hebron Glass And Upholstery until 1975. She lived in Hebron until July, 1981, when she moved to Chester to live with her daughter, and entered the nursing home on October 28.

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron and Naomi Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Edward, Albert, Walter and George; one sister, Mrs. Jess (Minnie) Powell.

She is survived by her children: Ervin of York, Lloyd of Hebron, Mrs. Martin (Arlene) Matthiesen of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Reuben (Gladys) Schleifer of Chester; two brothers, Leonard of Sargent, Nebr., and Louis of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters: Mrs. Emma Renz of Byron, Mrs. Dora Deeke of Hubbell and Mrs. Ida Schutte of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church on November 21, with Rev. Douglas Allen officiating. Interment was at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at Byron.
