L. A. (Lecky) Gought [sic Gough], who resides near the Vanner Steen store at Spaulding, was killed instantly as his automobile crashed into [a] deep ditch just inside the corporate limits of Kelly about 5 p.m. Saturday.

It is believe that Mr. Gough lost control of the car when the left wheels apparently locked as he rounded a curve entering his home town.

It is stated that he was traveling alone at the time...Dr. E. L. Carroll said he was killed instantly although he was taken to the Caldwell hospital.

Mr. Gough was well known in this parish, being born and reared in ward six, but for the past few years he and his family had been residing in Spaulding. He was employed at the Roberts Lumber company of Grayson as a lumber grader.

He was 42 years old at the time of his death. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Kelly Baptist church with the Rev. W. H. Carroll, pastor of the Olla church in charge. Interment was made in the Adams cemetery near Kelly.

Pallbearers were R. P. Steen, W. H. Hayes, Bruce Gough, Verdie Laird, L. T. Fletcher and Maurice Hargrove.

The funeral was under the direction of the Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bess Newsom Gough and two children, Shirley Jean and Tom; his mother, Mrs. Mary Gough, of Olla, a brother, Godfrey Gough and three sisters, Mrs. Gracie Taylor and Miss Lessie Belle Gough, all residents of Olla and Mrs. V. C. Brannon, who resides at Houston, Tex.

His father was the late Hansford Gough, a prominent farmer of the ward 6 community. A sister, Mrs. George Streetman of Clarks, also preceded him in death.
