MOSCOW - Dorothea M. (Dode) Hollen, a retired teacher and dietitian, died of causes related to age Sunday at the Latah Care Center at Moscow. She was 91.
She was a native of the Viola, Idaho, area and taught in Latah County schools.
She was born Sept. 4, 1901, on Chaney Hill, about three miles east of Viola, to George and Maud Sims Chaney. She completed grade school and the first two years of high school at Viola, then graduated from Clarkston High School.
She earned a two-year teachers' certificate from Lewiston State Normal School and married Nolen (Mull) Hollen Nov. 20, 1923, at Moscow.
They farmed in the Viola area and later in the Potlatch, Idaho, area before he died Nov. 18, 1958.
She taught in the Flannigan Creek, Mountain Gem, Marbell and Viola country schools and had been a dietitian in Hays and Forney dormitories on the University of Idaho campus.
She was a former member of the Palouse Valley Club, the Will Do Club and the Kennedy Ford Grange No. 177.
Survivors include two daughters, one of Jewett City, Conn., and one of Moscow; a son, of Viola; two sisters, one of Viola and one of Moscow, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. [Survivor names omitted per Find a Grave policy.]
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Short's Funeral Chapel at Moscow. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Short's Funeral Chapel with Mike Thorsteinson and Terry Wells officiating.
Burial will follow at the Viola Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Latah Care Center.
