Lot Owner: Edmond Ackerman.

Edmond Ackerman was born July 14, 1908, on a farm north of Grafton, the third born son of Frederick and Katharina Fuhrman Ackerman. He passed away April 29, 1988, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 15 days. He was one of eight children in the family.

Ed attended rural school in the Grafton area and grew to manhood there.

He was united in marriage to Geniza Irene Albro on April 4, 1934, and to this union one son and three daughters were born, Lanny, Nancy, Nadine and Nina.

He was a longtime Fairmont resident. Ed worked at the Fairmont Air Base during WWII. He worked for many years on road construction as a heavy equipment operator. He worked
for Nichols Construction and Dobson-Robson Construction.

Before his retirement in 1974, he worked for the State of Nebraska on road maintenance.

He was a member of the Fairmont Community Church. He had been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and was currently a member of the Eagles in Grand Island.

Ed was a man of boundless energy. He never met a stranger. After his retirement he kept very active fixing anything that was broken. he had a special gift to make the old new, and the broken fixed.

If a part was broken or lost, he had the ability to fashion a new part. He enjoyed this challenge.

He enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards and the comradeship of friends. He also enjoyed his children and grandchildren and the time he spent with his special friend, Eunice and her family.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Geniza; his parents; five brothers, Andy, Herb, Ervin, Carl, and Terry; and two sisters, Sophie Wilson and Anita Griffith.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Lee Galusha, Nina Bartu, and Nadine, one son, Lanny; six grandchildren; Tomie, Tricia and Thad Galusha, Nick and Greg Ackerman and Darci Bartu; and a special friend Eunice Stoltenberg.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 3, form the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont with the Rev. Norman Kauble officiating.

Mrs. Nancy Jo Galusha played "In the Garden" and accompanied the congregation which sang, "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were Dean, Allen, Lee and Virgil Ackerman; Roy Stoltenberg, and Dwight West.

Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Tomie and Thad Galusha and Nick and Greg Ackerman.

Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
